I welcome a longtime friend and gifted guitarist Craig Hall, fresh from an appearance in our ‘Week of the Guitar ‘ along with vocalist Krista Arledge Barnett to the Jazz & More forum this coming Monday at Bozeman Library.
Montanan Craig Hall is a jazz guitarist and acoustic bassist who has carved out an existence as the definitive sideman of the upper mountain states. He has played all over the joint with a diverse array of groups and trios, frequently with The String Jumpers, Jeni Fleming, Bob Britten, Michael Myersa, Eden Atwood and many others including pianist Ann Tappan with whom he co-leads the group Springhill, which have toured Eastern Europe, playing progressive modern jazz drawing on rock and folk influences. Craig has appeared on over 50 CD’s with interests in recording self-lead jazz projects while also maintaining a private teaching practice. Turn-ons include the third mode of the Melodic Minor scale, thin, quiet ethereal distant atonal volume swells and watching young music students become inspired by new musical insights.
Krista Arledge grew up in a musical family in Akron, Ohio, singing in a variety of ensembles throughout her childhood and high school years including madrigal, Doo-wop and show choir groups. Pursuing those interests, Krista attended Indiana University where she got a degree in Vocal Music and Theatre and studied classical and jazz voice and formed a band with fellow music students called Guest House who produced three albums and a few tours before disbanding. Krista currently lives in Bozeman and teaches at a Montessori school. In 2009 she joined The String Jumpers as vocalist and also performs with the tribute band, Pinky and the Floyd. As in the past, interviews and performances will be interwoven, both will perform together as duet, then in trio style with yours truly. Show starts at 7pm, please join us.
Jazz and More is sponsored by Montana Ale Works.
