As our season begins to wind down, we welcome pianist
Stefan Stern to the next Jazz and More Monday evening show.
Stefan has been playing piano since five years of age, where he started on an old organ in his parents basement in Schöningen, Germany. Soon after, he started taking his first piano lessons and by age nine he was earning pocket money by playing pipe organ in local churches.
Since then, Stefan has freelanced as a jazz, classical, and rock pianist and performed at all level of venues, from large music festivals to private house concerts, to recitals in Antarctica and on a cruise ship traveling up the Amazon River. He is a founding member of the German rock band Seven which released its most recent album in 2008.
Locally, Stern has played with the Bozeman Symphony and the Glenn Johnston Swing Band, along with many others. In the Fall of 2008 he finished recording his first solo classical album of Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition at the UFO Sound Studios in Berlin, Germany and is working on a solo album of original work that is expected to be released next year.
Currently Stefan lives and works in Bozeman with his wife, daughter and two golden retrievers and is excitedly expecting their second daughter in October of this year.
