I think it was ’83…Sonny Rollins had played a really deep set for a local festival (that no longer has great shows) and we went into the trailer behind the stage where he had some water…the crowd was thousands strong and raising hell for more. Sonny’s dear wife looked at him and said “No more Sonny, they are going crazy out there.” He looked at her and smiled…then looked at his band, standing by and said “Stay here, I’ve got this.” Sonny walked out to the front of the big stage with tenor in hand and played the most stunning “I’ll Be Seeing You” that one could imagine…the crowd was hypnotized and he let them have it from his heart…bowed and exited.
