Four powerhouses of the local music scene are converging Thursday, November 18th, to celebrate the release of Kelly Roberti’s newest CD. Bass player Roberti has invited some talented friends to join him on stage, most notably Alan Fauque and Eric Funk, who provide high-quality accompaniment on saxophone and piano, respectively. If that wasn’t enough, there will be a special appearance by singing sensation Jeni Fleming, who is sure to add her own brand of sultry vocals to the evening. These four have blended their amazing abilities into the CD Slumber, comprised of seven ballads which will be the focus of the evening’s concert.

In putting together the CD, Roberti, known for his street-smart technical skills, has drawn on his experience as a performer and teacher, to compose a haunting mix of mellow and moody tunes. Roberti’s style highlights a powerful musical passion layered with an insightful grace and a spiritual edge.

His music reflects everything from Tin Pan Alley to ethnic world music with an awareness of the underlying harmonic and rhythmic structures affecting the listener on multiple levels. Author of stylized lyrics for his latest release, Roberti is also a published poet who has worked with many legends in the jazz world.

When reviewing his work, The Village Voice perhaps said it best, “Roberti is quite literally a shaman of the bass with the ability to take the receptive listener into a wonderland of thought. His inner warmth and maturity shine through whether soloing or in a supportive role.” The influential and respected publication Le Jazz Hot agreed, “Kelly Roberti’s bass is rock solid and his solos are a wonderful display of how to give a tune a signature.”

Tickets for the November 18th CD release party, featuring Roberti, Fauque, Funk and Fleming, are only $20.00. For those interested in purchasing a CD along with a ticket, there is a special combination price of $30.00. Immediately following the performance there will be a “Jazz Reception” at PLONK! featuring oyster on the half shell and champagne specials. The music at the reception will be provided by the Craig Hall Trio (Craig Hall – guitar, Mike Carey – bass and Adam Greenberg – drums) making for a complete night of celebration!
